Kung-fu Porn
The purest mixture of pornography and kung-fu the world has ever seen. It's what happens when "Crouching Tiger" meets "Max Hardcore." With such moves as the "Invincible Tongue" and "Oral Attack" as the opening moves in this epic battle, it is the test of wills that should have been the true battle between Master Li Mu Bai and Xiou Long.

Pongmechanik
Think your mechanical engineering skills are teh leet? Try duplicating this task: two engineers in Germany built a mechanical replicant of the original Pong game by Atari. The catch? Not a single IC is in use throughout the entire game. Everything is done using motors and wires, and the computer is really just a bank of old-ass phone relays. Think about that when you talk about how cool your MAME cab is.

SFWA On Writing
The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America homepage has a great page about the craft of writing. In it, you can find SF & F specific articles (e.g. "Building New Worlds", and "Writing SF For Kids), as well as general pieces about the craft of writing itself (e.g. "Excuse Me, How Much Did It Cost You?", an anti-scam handout, and "Writers' Workshops"). No matter what your genre, taste, or inclination, this site will provide a great deal of information for your writing pleasure.

BTW, the technique used by the author of this web page to find "interesting" ideas about the number 666 is also known as "quarter spotting." It's quite simple: simply imagine that you see quarters on the ground everywhere you go, and sure enough you will start to find random change laying about the street.

Cults and Mysticism
The blogosphere is replete with articles about various cults and mystics today, so I'll just post them all here.

The Kogi of Colombia, South America, Labyrinth, Sacred Journeys. "The Kogi know secrets about nature that would make our scientists rethink their ideas on the environment and the universe. They have a presence about them that commands respect. The power of their mind is beyond comprehension." Yeak, ok. [via lifi]

Turkmenbashi Cult. You know, the totally megalomaniacal ruler of Turkmenistan? Posters everywhere declare a curse on those that "betray your president": "...At the moment of my betrayal to my motherland, to her sacred [leader?], to my president, let my breath stop." Fun stuff. Let's invade! [via mofi]

Devil Worship: The sacred Books and Traditions of the Yezidiz. These are the rustic Iraqi Satanists that have been persecuted by Islam for a long time. Hmm. Wonder why. Let's invade! (oh wait)... [via mefi]

Heroin Love

(BTW... I have a lottery ticket for tonight. Wish me luck and I'll hook you up *wink* *wink*)

Roscoe P. Coltrane -- Portrait of an Artist
Today is quickly becoming a "Where are they now?" episode for defunct C-list TV stars. First we get the wit and wisdom of "Faceman" through his writing. Now, we get the art of James Best, AKA "Roscoe P. Coltrane" from "The Dukes of Hazzard." Turns out that the guy is quite the oil painter, preferring rustic landscapes that would even get a rise out of old Flash.

Flash Whore Dead
FYI, I'm ending my other blog Flash Whore. I'm spending so much time here that I'm just going to work on this one. Flash whore was mostly just mindless stuff, kitten movies and retarded-ass yet amusing games, that I was saving for myself. Now, if I find that certain special kitten flash movie, I'll post it here.

Flash Whore will remain as it is--it won't be deleted--for the archives, so if you want to go waste many (more) hours on about 90 different pieces of flash amusement that I've collected, head on over.

Many mindless games
Quadgames.com has many, many mindlessly entertaining games to play. So many, in fact, that I daren't even try to review a few for this article. Just go there, and whatever type of game you like playing will have about twenty versions online.

One thing that is especially cool about this site (and the more I sit here and look at the home page, the more I am tempted to click, click, click my way to mindlessness...no!...must work!) is that each game lists the number of times that it has been played, as well as the high score. Yes! High scores! So now you can compete against the entire bloody world and see how you do.

That Damned "War Profiteering" Video
So MoveOn.org has a new flash video about how the war profiteers are making billions on the Iraqi war, and the way this whole thing is being presented really irks me.

Offending quote: "[Companies are making billions]...they're getting rich, our soldiers are putting their lives on the line."

That's it. Absolutely nothing about the fact that over ten thousand Iraqis have been killed. Obviously they are not even worth mentioning, but U.S. SOLDIERS, OMG! Men and women that volunteered to go off and die are being killed! Damn that George Bush.

(Ordinarily I wouldn't be so snarky about an organization like MoveOn that is doing something I approve of--attempting to get rid of Bush--but I'm becoming more and more annoyed at the cabalistic nature of the media at large in their portrayal of Iraqis, and, indeed, non-Americans of all stripes and colors (especially brown people) as incidental aborigines in the assumed mass standardization of globalism and imperialism. Very humanitarian, MoveOn.org.)

Oh Yeah, it's 9/11
Here is what the world is doing in honor / celebration / remembrance of the day that brought the United States military machine to the Middle East in earnest.

Metafilter: nine different articles
BoingBoing: QTVR post of the towers of light
memepool: no new posts since sep 4
linkfilter: many and varied conspiracy theories
my house: nursing a hangover

Something else that was interesting in the news. Silverstein, owner of the WTC, is suing Al Qaeda. As if we don't have the military might bearing down on them from most of the nations on the Earth, but I'm sure a summons to a civil suit will bring them running. Isn't post-traumatic posturing grand?

I'll have another piece of yellowcake, please
This article shrilly declaring Iran's intention, er, I mean, its possible capability for building bombs to destroy the west, ah, um, er, I mean, building bombs, mentions that they have begun "processing 37 tons of uranium yellowcake." Incidentally, this, as I remember from watching the moveon.org video, is the same substance used to indict Saddam Hussein over a nuclear weapons program.

But what the hell is yellowcake? Wikipedia has it as an intermediary product between milled uranium ore and fuel that can be used in reactors or weapons. It is designated by the formula U3O8, and is known also as uranium oxide. However, the resemblances between it and its namesake are uncanny.

Yellowcake is generally processed in one of two ways. For fuel preparation, it is converted into purified uranium dioxide (UO2). For uranium enrichment, it is converted into uranium hexafluoride gas (UF6), which is then used to further enrich U-235 content to 3% for commercial reactors, or 50% - 90% for nuclear submarines.

Obviously the U.S. Department of State is not happy with Iran right now.

Google Broken
Google, that web search engine that we've all come to love seems to be a broke down piece of honky. For the past several days, all of my attempts to reach that most-beloved of internet portals have been met with poor performance issues. This includes, but is not limited to: Google search, Google images, News.google.com, and, worst offender of all, blogspot.com. Now blogspot I can forgive because it's just a small project for Google, and it's about the same amount of performance I would expect from any community network its size, but news? images? SEARCH? Here's what pops up on my screen when I type http://www.google.com into my browser.

1. Firefox sits there with the string "Connecting to www.google.com..." in its status bar. This does not change.

2. Sixty painful seconds of the status bar informing us that we're doing something that we actually aren't, then this message appears in a modal popup window: "Alert. The operation timed out when attempting to contact www.google.com"

3. Typing "http://www.suck.com" into the browser does not yield similar results, and in fact I get to then read the content of suck.com, as the founders of the world wide web intended I do so.

Google, what is up, buddy? This exercise definitely woke me up to just how many of your products I use on a daily / hourly basis, and that number kind of scares me. But you know what, you do a lot of things right, and it irritates me when you do things wrong. Please, please, turn your search engine back on, otherwise I am going to lobby for socialized network directories and try to take that out of private hands.

Pleistocene Megafauna
Metafilter ran an article today about the Pleistocene era and the megafauna of North America, but I found the info to be a little lacking and thin compared to the typical MeFi post, not to mention their misspelling of "Pleistocene." Therefore, in an effort to more fully explore this topic, and not as a personal rub to namespan for posting the thin article, here is a comprehensive collection of links about the Pleistocene era, and the monstrous mammals that ranged across North America.
